PRAYER GUIDE
Day 1 – A Heart of Prayer
When we pray, we demonstrate our reliance upon God for everything that we need, and seek to align our heart with His will. Pray that God would reveal himself to you as you connect with Him personally in prayer, and for Him to grow your heart for intercessory prayer (praying on behalf of others).
Philippians 4:6-7
Day 2 – Fruit of the Holy Spirit
Read Galatians 5:22-23 and pray for a heart of continued surrender to Jesus as leader in your life so that the Holy Spirit can grow the characteristics (fruit) of God’s ways in your life. Listen for impressions from the Lord for specific areas in your life that He is wanting to develop.
Galatians 5:22-23
Day 3 – A Heart for Others
Pray that God would help you actually “feel” the overwhelming love that He has for you. The more you can accept His love for you, the greater capacity that you will have to love others. Pray that God would give you a genuine love for others–even those the world would consider unlovable. Pray for the specific needs that you are aware of in the lives of people in your family, life group, workplace, church, etc.
John 15:11-17
Day 4 – New Life Ministry Teams
God designed for His Church to grow and expand His kingdom through the lives and ministry gifts of each believer. Pray for those serving in ministry through your church and for the teams that focus on various areas of ministry.
1 Corinthians 11:1
Day 5 – The Next Generation
Pray for the Next Generation – children, teenagers and young adults – that God would raise up a generation that sees the world clearly through the truth of the Bible and whose identity is firmly established in Christ. Pray for the ministries of New Life that reach and disciple young people and young adults – that God would increase their influence through the classes, life groups and gatherings, and through the leaders, mentors, teachers, and disciplers in these ministries. Pray for young people to be witnesses for Christ in their families, schools, programs, teams, clubs, and jobs.
Psalm 145:4; 1 Timothy 4:12
Day 6 – Pastors
Pray for your pastors to have courageous faith as they lead in their ministries. Pray for wisdom and understanding as they equip the church for ministry, and pray for a complete reliance upon the Holy Spirit. Pray also for their families who share the calling to ministry.
Galatians 6:9
Day 7 – Holy Spirit’s Power At Work Among Us
Pray that the work of the Holy Spirit would be unmistakably present in our lives, in our worship, through the preaching and teaching, and as we respond to God’s Word. Pray for the Spirit of God to lead people to a place of surrender, for those who are stuck to be set free, for relationships to be restored, for healing, and for God to be glorified.
John 14:26; John 15:26-27
Day 8 – To See People Find Jesus and Lives Changed
Pray for those who are not living a life surrendered to Christ to encounter the grace and mercy of God through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Pray for the continuing work of God in our lives as we become more like Him—in our beliefs, attitudes, and values.
2 Peter 3:9; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Hebrews 6:1
Day 9 – Kingdom Builders Partners & Global Outreach Teams
Pray for our Kingdom Builders partners who are serving to plant churches, reach the unreached, love the unloved, relieve suffering, provide Bibles, raise up pastors, missionaries and Christian leaders, and meet physical and spiritual needs in Jesus’ name. Pray for the New Life GO teams that will be taking short-term trips this year to make a spiritual difference in the lives of others, and for God to do a work in their lives as they serve.
Romans 10:13-15
Day 10 – Next New Life Campus
Pray for the people in the community in which God will lead us to plant the next New Life campus. Pray for the unity of effort among our campuses and for the preparation of the pastors and leaders on the launch team as we follow the vision to plant a life-giving church, and pray that God would be glorified.
1 Corinthians 3:5-7; Luke 14:23
Ways to Connect With God Daily in Prayer:
1. Pick a time and place
Prioritize time in prayer by selecting a time and place to pray each day. Scheduling your prayer time can help ensure it happens.
2. Listen as much (if not more) than you speak
God is the one who will bring your spiritual vision into focus; therefore, you’ll want to spend time listening to Him and not just speaking to Him. Like talking to a friend on the phone, think of prayer as a two-way conversation.
3. Ask for anything
From practical needs to spiritual needs, God doesn’t limit what we can ask for. Pray for the salvation of loved ones, for His kingdom to be built, for His favor and provision, etc.
FASTING
Fasting is a voluntary act of going without food – or any other regularly enjoyed activity – for the sake of a spiritual purpose. During these 10 days, we encourage you to consider fasting as a way of being more intentional and focused on your pursuit of God.
Scripture References: Matthew 6:16-18, Matthew 9:14-15, Esther 4, Nehemiah 9:1-3
Fasting examples:
- Fast one meal a day for 10 days
- Fast from food each Wednesday of the 10 days
- Fast from social media for the entire 10 days
- Fast from a hobby that can be time-consuming and spend that time in prayer with God
If you are considering a food fast, it is wise to consult your doctor before you begin.
