In the wake of the flooding in the Kearney area, New Life has been in contact with city and county officials about the scope of the damage and the needs in our community. The Buffalo County Emergency Management Director and city officials are currently assessing the need. When volunteer crews are needed, we want to be ready to respond.

Flood Relief Volunteers

Supplies Available at New Life:  We have bottled water, snack items, blankets, pillows, sheets, and towels available at no cost for those in need due to the flooding.  Stop by the church at 2715 West 39th street in Kearney to pick up to these supplies Monday-Friday 8:30 am to 5:oo pm.  Please use entrance 3.

Community Resources and Links:

Hot Meals USA: Are serving hamburgers, hot dogs, Mac and Cheese and chips, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening starting around 5 PM at the Chamber parking lot in Kearney. This is for anyone working the Kearney flood, or affected by the flood.

Disaster Relief Fund: The Kearney Area Community Foundation has a Disaster Relief Fund set up to help those in the Kearney area suffering loss from the recent devastating flooding. To show your support, click the link below to donate to the Disaster Relief Fund. All donations will stay in our area.

Temporary Housing:  The University of Nebraska at Kearney is providing temporary housing for people impacted by flooding in Kearney and surrounding communities.  UNK opened its Centennial Towers West (CTW) residence hall today (Tuesday) to accommodate students, faculty and staff, as well as community members displaced by the flooding. The university is also working with nearby hotels to relocate and house hundreds of travelers who were evacuated.  Anyone impacted by the flooding can stay in Centennial Towers West at no cost. Those seeking assistance can check in at the residence hall, located at 1014 W. 29th St. on the UNK campus, just north of the Nebraskan Student Union, or call 308-865-8519. Bedding will be provided by UNK and Sodexo, the campus dining services provider, will serve meals.

The Kearney Jubilee Center:   If you or someone you know is in need of food, bottled water and clothing, they are ready to assist you.  Located at 2523 Ave. A is open from 8am till 7pm Monday through Friday.  Phone 308-234-3880

Salvation Army: They are equipped with food, cleaning supplies, and toiletries for those in need and those who are assisting those in need. Located at 1719 Central Ave, Kearney.  Phone 308-234-9998.  Hours for emergency services and food pantry: Tuesday 9-noon and 1-5, Wednesday 9-1, Thursday 1-5, Friday 9-1.
